Fritz’ V Day

my process for this piece started with gathering reference images, and pinpointing a theme. i based most of the colors off a makeup look i had done earlier in the week. my makeup process is featured in post 1. how i begin most of my pieces is with reference boards, featuring the clothes, theme, and pose. for the pose in this piece, i went out and took my own photos using a tripod and the self timer feature.

(credits to images will be here)

after putting together my reference board, i started my sketch process. i like to keep my sketches very messy, it helps me think through and rough out what shapes and forms i want. i got back later and do linework on a separate layer over the sketch.

after linework, i go in with flat colors, the colors for this piece took me a few tries to get right. but once i got my flat colors down, i went on to design the butterfly for this piece. in this scene, Fritz has large semi transparent wings coming out of his back, and a similarly colored butterfly mask over his face.

after designing the butterfly, i go back through and render the background, before finally rendering the figure and clothes. once both the background and figure are done, i put it in Adobe Illustrator to put on finishing touches.

Finished Piece!

special thanks to Jared on ProcreateFolio for making the Cadenas Brush, which i used to draw the chains in this piece.
